Sheriff White, Looking for Political Points in New Orleans

It's hard to find an honest politician these days, or even an honorable one .

If you watched the TV or read the papers, you would think that Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White took some of his deputies out to New Orleans to help out with recovery efforts out of the goodness of his heart.

But Darren White took some time out of his busy rescue efforts to call Joe Monahan, the political blogger to report from the scene (link). Huh? Joe's is a political website, and obviously the purpose of White's call to Joe was to spread the word about what he is doing on the state's political wires.

The fact that White is out hustling the press and the bloggers to write stories about his travels to New Orleans is another example of White trying to gain publicity for himself rather than doing what he's supposed to be doing: keeping law and order in Bernalillo County. In this case he's using a national tragedy to promote himself.

Shameful, shameless stuff.

Sorry, Joe, it seemed to be portreyed as if White called you. My confusion.

But it still seems to point to the consistant approach this sheriff has to how he conducts himself in the press and politically. He is not only overtly partisan but has never turned down an interview. Even in the event of a national tragedy.
